IDQ Monitor User - Guida completa

  Tuoi computer ──(agente)──► IL TUO SERVER ◄── App (telefono, tablet, PC, web)

sudo tee /etc/systemd/system/idq-monitor-server.service <<EOF
[Unit]
Description=IDQ Monitor server
After=network-online.target

[Service]
WorkingDirectory=$PWD
ExecStart=/usr/bin/python3 $PWD/idq_monitor_server.py
User=$USER
Restart=always

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
EOF
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable --now idq-monitor-server

Metodo B - con Docker:

docker compose up -d

cat dati/monitor.token

Passo 4 - Raggiungi il server da internet (gratis)

Le app usano un indirizzo sicuro (https://…). Scegli una di queste strade gratuite:

Passo 5 - Il tuo link

https://YOUR-ADDRESS/monitor?k=YOUR-TOKEN

Passo 7 - Aggiungi i tuoi computer

Servizi: attivo, fermo, arrestato

L'agente distingue un servizio fermo (spento in modo normale: nessun avviso) da uno arrestato in modo anomalo (errore, crash, memoria esaurita: avviso).

Aggiornamenti e riavvii

GPU e consumi in watt

"presa": { "tipo": "shelly", "ip": "192.168.1.50", "canale": 0 }

Poi riavvia l'agente.

{
  "link": "https://YOUR-ADDRESS/monitor?k=YOUR-TOKEN",
  "nome": "raspberry",
  "docker_tutti": true,
  "servizi": {
    "Web":    { "porta": 80,   "systemd": "nginx" },
    "Cloud":  { "porta": 8080, "docker": "nextcloud" },
    "Backup": 5000
  }
}

Per togliere un computer: ferma l'agente (Linux: systemctl --user disable --now idq-monitor-agente; Windows: Unregister-ScheduledTask -TaskName IDQMonitorAgente -Confirm:$false).

6. Se qualcosa non funziona

ProblemaCosa fare

IDQ Monitor User - Complete guide

How it works, how to try it and how to get your own server, step by step.

1. What IDQ Monitor User is

IDQ Monitor User shows the status of your computers in real time: processor (every single core), load, memory, swap, disks and partitions, network, temperatures, running services, updates and maintenance. If something is wrong, it alerts you on your phone.

It works with three parts:

  Your computers ──(agent)──► YOUR SERVER ◄── App (phone, tablet, PC, web)

2. The free 24-hour trial

The first time you open the app it offers a free 24-hour trial on the IDQ server, with no sign-up:

During the trial, remote restart of PCs is not available. The demo PC is not a real computer: it only shows how the app works.

3. How to get your own server (step by step)

After the trial, or if you prefer not to use the IDQ server, you need your own server. It's free and simple: all you need is an always-on computer and about 20 minutes.

Step 1 - What you need

The server reads the computer it runs on (processor, memory, disks…). Windows can be monitored with the agent, but the server itself should run on Linux.
Raspberry Pi. As a server we recommend a Pi 4 or Pi 5 (at least 2 GB of memory; a Pi 3 is enough for a few computers). As a computer to monitor, the agent works on all models running Raspberry Pi OS. The .deb installer and the windowed app need a 64-bit system (Pi 5, 4, 400, 3, 3+, Zero 2 W): check with uname -m (it must answer aarch64); on Pi Zero, Pi 1 and Pi 2 with a 32-bit system use the Add device command. The windowed app needs the graphical desktop (not the Lite version).

Step 2 - Download the server package

From the IDQ Monitor User website download idq-monitor-server.zip (section Download → Server). On the server computer:

unzip idq-monitor-server.zip
cd idq-monitor-server

Step 3 - Start the server

Method A - without Docker (the simplest):

python3 idq_monitor_server.py

To make it start by itself at every boot, create a service:

sudo tee /etc/systemd/system/idq-monitor-server.service <<EOF
[Unit]
Description=IDQ Monitor server
After=network-online.target

[Service]
WorkingDirectory=$PWD
ExecStart=/usr/bin/python3 $PWD/idq_monitor_server.py
User=$USER
Restart=always

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
EOF
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable --now idq-monitor-server

Method B - with Docker:

docker compose up -d

On first start the server creates the access key (the token) in the dati folder. To read it:

cat dati/monitor.token

Step 4 - Reach the server from the internet (free)

The apps use a secure address (https://…). Choose one of these free options:

Step 5 - Your link

The link to use in the apps is the address from step 4 followed by /monitor?k= and the token:

https://YOUR-ADDRESS/monitor?k=YOUR-TOKEN
The link contains the access key: don't share it. Anyone who has it can see your data.

Step 6 - Connect the app

In the app open the menu (three lines) → Change link and paste the link. If the app is on the trial-ended screen, choose I already have my server.

Step 7 - Add your computers

In the app: menu → Add device…, type a name and copy the command. On the computer you want to monitor paste it:

Administrator permission: the installation asks for it at that moment (on Windows the confirmation window appears; on Linux and Raspberry the sudo password is requested). It is needed for remote restart and to read power consumption: only a narrow rule is created, and if you refuse the monitor still works.

After a few seconds the computer appears at the top of the app. The command installs the agent and starts it at every boot. Alternatively use the installers on the website (Windows, Ubuntu, Raspberry).

Step 8 - Customise

From the menu choose which sections to see, which services to monitor and which alarms to receive (with thresholds). Optional: turn on remote restart with a PIN.

4. How to use it

Alerts

On the Android app the background check (about every 30 seconds) sends a notification when there is an alarm: processor, load, memory, swap, disk or temperature above the threshold you chose, a service stopped abnormally, a computer suddenly off, or the server unreachable. A normal shutdown of a computer does not trigger alerts. On Android, in the menu, allow without battery limits so the check is not stopped.

On the computer apps, alarms are shown only inside the app, with no popups.

Services: active, stopped, failed

The agent tells a stopped service (turned off normally: no alert) from one that failed abnormally (error, crash, out of memory: alert).

Updates and restarts

If there are updates that require a restart, the app tells you and, if you turned on remote restart, Restart now… appears (the PIN is required). Automatic updates on Linux computers can be scheduled at night (02:00-02:45) with a restart at 02:30.

The restart PIN

On first launch the app asks whether you want to be able to restart your computers from the app. If you accept, choose a PIN of 4-8 digits; from the menu you can change, reset or turn it off (at your own risk: without a PIN nobody can restart computers remotely). After 5 wrong PINs there is a 5-minute lock. The PIN is checked by your server: it is not in the app.

Declared maintenance

To tell the app you are working on a Linux computer, write a sentence in the file ~/.config/idq-monitor-manutenzione: it will appear in the Activity card. Delete the file when you're done.

GPU and power consumption in watts

The GPU card appears only if the computer has a dedicated graphics card (not the one built into the processor): it shows usage, video memory, temperature and watts (NVIDIA with nvidia-smi; AMD on Linux).

The Power (watts) section shows the total watts and, separately, those of the processor and the GPU. By default the total is an estimate (processor + GPU). The processor is read from the system energy counter (on Linux this needs the administrator permission given at installation).

For the real consumption of the whole PC, plug the computer into a Shelly smart plug (Gen1 or Gen2) and add to the file ~/.config/idq-monitor-agente.json (on Windows: %APPDATA%\idq-monitor-agente.json):

"presa": { "tipo": "shelly", "ip": "192.168.1.50", "canale": 0 }

Then restart the agent. From then on the total is the one measured by the plug.

If the computer is a professional server (with an IPMI/BMC controller and ipmitool), a laptop, or has power sensors on the motherboard, the agent uses them automatically for the real total, no plug needed. Otherwise it shows only what the computer can measure.

5. The agents in detail

The agent's configuration file is ~/.config/idq-monitor-agente.json (Windows: %APPDATA%\idq-monitor-agente.json). You can list the services to show by default:

{
  "link": "https://YOUR-ADDRESS/monitor?k=YOUR-TOKEN",
  "nome": "raspberry",
  "docker_tutti": true,
  "servizi": {
    "Web":    { "porta": 80,   "systemd": "nginx" },
    "Cloud":  { "porta": 8080, "docker": "nextcloud" },
    "Backup": 5000
  }
}

To remove a computer: stop the agent (Linux: systemctl --user disable --now idq-monitor-agente; Windows: Unregister-ScheduledTask -TaskName IDQMonitorAgente -Confirm:$false).

6. If something doesn't work

ProblemWhat to do
The app says "Connecting to the server…"Check the phone's network, that the server is on and that the link is correct (menu → Change link).
The computer doesn't appearCheck that the agent is running and run the Add device command again. On Linux: journalctl --user -u idq-monitor-agente -n 20.
Error 403The link or token is wrong: copy it again from the server (cat dati/monitor.token).
Notifications don't arriveOn Android allow notifications and use without battery limits; on Samsung remove the app from "sleeping apps".
Forgotten PINOn the server delete dati/monitor.pin and restart the server: the app will ask you to choose a new one.
Trial endedFollow the "How to get your own server" steps and choose I already have my server.

7. Privacy and contacts

The app has no accounts, no ads and uses no analytics tools. With your own server, your computers' data stays between your computers, your server and your apps. During the 24-hour trial the data goes to the IDQ server and is deleted at expiry. Full details are in the privacy policy.

IDQ Monitor User - Guide complet

  Vos ordinateurs ──(agent)──► VOTRE SERVEUR ◄── Application (téléphone, tablette, PC, web)

sudo tee /etc/systemd/system/idq-monitor-server.service <<EOF
[Unit]
Description=IDQ Monitor server
After=network-online.target

[Service]
WorkingDirectory=$PWD
ExecStart=/usr/bin/python3 $PWD/idq_monitor_server.py
User=$USER
Restart=always

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
EOF
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable --now idq-monitor-server

Méthode B - avec Docker :

docker compose up -d

cat dati/monitor.token

https://YOUR-ADDRESS/monitor?k=YOUR-TOKEN

"presa": { "tipo": "shelly", "ip": "192.168.1.50", "canale": 0 }

{
  "link": "https://YOUR-ADDRESS/monitor?k=YOUR-TOKEN",
  "nome": "raspberry",
  "docker_tutti": true,
  "servizi": {
    "Web":    { "porta": 80,   "systemd": "nginx" },
    "Cloud":  { "porta": 8080, "docker": "nextcloud" },
    "Backup": 5000
  }
}

Pour retirer un ordinateur : arrêtez l'agent (Linux : systemctl --user disable --now idq-monitor-agente ; Windows : Unregister-ScheduledTask -TaskName IDQMonitorAgente -Confirm:$false).

IDQ Monitor User - Komplette Anleitung

1. Was IDQ Monitor User ist

  Deine Computer ──(Agent)──► DEIN SERVER ◄── App (Handy, Tablet, PC, Web)

Schritt 1 - Was du brauchst

Schritt 2 - Server-Paket herunterladen

Lade von der Website von IDQ Monitor User idq-monitor-server.zip herunter (Bereich Download → Server). Auf dem Server-Computer:

unzip idq-monitor-server.zip
cd idq-monitor-server

Schritt 3 - Server starten

Methode A - ohne Docker (am einfachsten):

python3 idq_monitor_server.py

sudo tee /etc/systemd/system/idq-monitor-server.service <<EOF
[Unit]
Description=IDQ Monitor server
After=network-online.target

[Service]
WorkingDirectory=$PWD
ExecStart=/usr/bin/python3 $PWD/idq_monitor_server.py
User=$USER
Restart=always

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
EOF
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable --now idq-monitor-server

Methode B - mit Docker:

docker compose up -d

cat dati/monitor.token

https://YOUR-ADDRESS/monitor?k=YOUR-TOKEN

"presa": { "tipo": "shelly", "ip": "192.168.1.50", "canale": 0 }

{
  "link": "https://YOUR-ADDRESS/monitor?k=YOUR-TOKEN",
  "nome": "raspberry",
  "docker_tutti": true,
  "servizi": {
    "Web":    { "porta": 80,   "systemd": "nginx" },
    "Cloud":  { "porta": 8080, "docker": "nextcloud" },
    "Backup": 5000
  }
}

Cómo funciona, cómo probarlo y cómo tener tu propio servidor, paso a paso.

  Tus ordenadores ──(agente)──► TU SERVIDOR ◄── App (móvil, tableta, PC, web)

3. Cómo tener tu propio servidor (paso a paso)

sudo tee /etc/systemd/system/idq-monitor-server.service <<EOF
[Unit]
Description=IDQ Monitor server
After=network-online.target

[Service]
WorkingDirectory=$PWD
ExecStart=/usr/bin/python3 $PWD/idq_monitor_server.py
User=$USER
Restart=always

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
EOF
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable --now idq-monitor-server

Método B - con Docker:

docker compose up -d

cat dati/monitor.token

Paso 4 - Llega al servidor desde internet (gratis)

Las apps usan una dirección segura (https://…). Elige una de estas opciones gratuitas:

Paso 5 - Tu enlace

https://YOUR-ADDRESS/monitor?k=YOUR-TOKEN

Servicios: activo, parado, fallido

"presa": { "tipo": "shelly", "ip": "192.168.1.50", "canale": 0 }

{
  "link": "https://YOUR-ADDRESS/monitor?k=YOUR-TOKEN",
  "nome": "raspberry",
  "docker_tutti": true,
  "servizi": {
    "Web":    { "porta": 80,   "systemd": "nginx" },
    "Cloud":  { "porta": 8080, "docker": "nextcloud" },
    "Backup": 5000
  }
}

6. Si algo no funciona
